a few things

I like how I was all "I'm totally blogging more from now on."
And then in all my free time I've been like "I need to clean! make food! lounge! Or maybe even SHOWER!"
To be fair to myself, I do have plenty to do while Nash is sleeping, which is why I think it's hard for me to get back in this habit. Sometimes (ALL THE TIME) showering just takes priority, you know? One post at a time I guess!
Anyways, here's some stuff:

+ When I started this full-time, stay-at-home mom gig, I was incredibly gung ho about keeping my house super clean all the time. Guys. That's just way too hard. So this is what my living room floor looks like all the live long day.

+ My all time favorite person to follow on social media is Natalie Hill Jensen (are you dying for her to re-launch her blog already?!). Anyway, she's started a 30-day Book of Mormon reading challenge for the month of March, which I've adapted for myself and I'm actually trying to just finish by general conference. I've been surprsingly on top of it and I'm loving it so far. I've really needed to make a big commitment to something spiritual like this, and I can't wait to see how I'm feeling at the end of the month! You should do it too.

+ Christian and I have gotten into a weird habit over the last few months. We usually put Nash down between 7:30 and 8 every night, which gives us about 3 hours of time together (sidenote: HEAVEN!). We've been playing a game of Quirkle almost every night, followed by a few episodes of House or Friends. It's the weirdest combination of stuff now that I think about it ha! But I totally love little rituals like that.

+ I just put together a new toy for Nash and what is he doing? Why, chewing on the remote of course. Hashtag babies am I right?!

+ Speaking of Nash, he started clapping last week!! Ah, my mom heart can't EVEN.

+ So the Bachelor! I just finished watching the season finale and I noticed something. At the beginning of every season, I make fun of it, HARD. Seriously you should probably watch it with me because I'm funny as everything. But EVERY YEAR without fail, I'm super invested by the last episode and way emotional and most likely crying at the proposal. Why is that?! It's the craziest show, and what they make those poor people go through is just terrible, when you think about it. But it's like a drug I can't quit. Along with the rest of America.

+ I'm cutting my hair on Saturday. And I mean like reeeeaaallly cutting it. No, like it will be all the way gone. It's only taken me almost a year but I CANNOT take this postpartum hair anymore. I totallly get now why so many moms have super short hair, and I'm about to be one of them. EEEK!

Well that's about it. I better stop now before my non-blogging self goes comatose from aaaaaaallll this writing.

a few things

Because we are horrible people, everyone in my family makes fun of our dog Gus because he seriously has the most crazed, goofy eyes I've ever seen. See left dog for details.

I'm really loving the latest Kings of Leon album. If you're looking for some sassy southern rock music for your summer soundtrack, I recommend listening to the song Family Tree. It's really groovy.

This morning before I even woke up, I was dreaming about taking a nap. I think I've officially reached a new level of tired. I guess I should get used to that because I will have a newborn in about 3 weeks......

This weekend also marks our 2 year anniversary. Time sure flies! So, here's a wedding picture, aaaaand you're welcome.

This year is the first time I've finished my finals before the very last day in a looong time. Once I saved 3 exams for the last day ha. IDIOT.

Speaking of finals... they're over! And now I'm just 2 classes away from graduation! I could kiss something. It will probably be Christian.
And on that note......

The end.

4.08.2014

life by numbers

7 weeks until Christian starts his long awaited internship.
6 episodes of LOST watched since Saturday.
5 weeks until baby Carter is due (!!!!!!!!)
4 diet cokes consumed in the last 7 days.
3 weeks until we move into our new apartment.
2 years of marriage basically in the books.
1 week until school's out.

I'm seriously out of breath just reading through that list, and it's not just because this babe is crushing my poor lungs ;)
I'm overwhelmed by and thrilled about everything we've got coming in the next 2 months! It's just crazy to think about how much our lives are going to change! As of next week, I only have 2 classes left before I can graduate... one of which I'm knocking out this spring. I can't believe I'm finally going to be done! My heart is so full when I think about it all, and that basically deserves a big fat post of its own. You know, "my journey at BYU", or something like that.
One day :)

Also can we just talk about how fast these last few months have gone?!
It's like one day I was 24 weeks pregnant, then I blinked and my due date is RIGHT. HERE.
In the last few days, I've heard of friends delivering 2 and 4 weeks early. It just blows my mind
(slash terrifies me!)
that that could happen to me. I mean, I could legitimately have this baby in the next few weeks! AH! I'm so so excited for him to get here, but honestly I'd like to keep him cooking as long as possible.
I mean, my mom isn't slated to get here until May 14, so you know. Let's at least wait for grandma!

Life is crazy, isn't it? It's like one day everything is normal and boring and all of the sudden, these huge changes are breathing down your neck and you're like:
"Where the freak did you come from?"
Yeah it's definitely crazy. But the really really good kind of crazy.

3.06.2014

things I'm loving this week

1. This nail polish. I have an unabashed thing for blue nail polish. And blue stuff in general.

2. This dress from the GAP. Maxi dresses ftw!

3. This list of 15 moments of inspiration for when you hate your life. Seriously killed me.

4. This blog post, and everything else I've been reading lately, about oil pulling. I'm weirdly intrigued, and DEFINITELY going to try it starting tomorrow!

5. This growing growing growing belly of mine! Less than 10 weeks to go!
Speaking of growing bellies... last week, a 50+ year old man stopped me and was like
"Hey when are you due?!"
I was surprised, naturally, because I had no idea who he was and.... well.... he was and old guy ha.
So I was all "Uhhhh I'm due in May....." And then he pointed to his gut and was like "ME TOO!"
I don't know why but I thought it was so funny. People are weird.

6. And finally, the psychotic dreams I'm having on the daily. Last night's featured Sean and Catherine from the bachelor (I KNOW). Except Catherine had totally duped Sean into marrying her and she was actually a member of the Chinese mafia from the upper east side. Also I dreamed about my baby, and he kept going back and fort from "baby" to "golden retriever puppy". It's always good waking up feeling highly entertained I guess!

2.27.2014

a few things

1. I check the work room at my job for free food every day. Apparently we've had free food enough times that it's become second nature for me. Today there was cake (!!!) and I was so happy.

2. Today, I went to an actual doctor appointment for the first time since November. Every other appointment since then has been for a required ultra sound or a trip to the hospital because "way to go, body!". I sort of have this vendetta against the medical world, so I've been happily avoiding the obgyn. Does anyone else get so annoyed when you go to the doctor and you pay 30 bucks to be told literally everything you read on google before you got there? I HATE THAT SO MUCH.

3. Last weekend, the oven took a bite out of my hand, resulting in a disgusting and super painful burn. Then it broke open of course, so now it's this gashy, scabby (ACK such a gross word!) mess on the side of my hand. In the last few days, 4 people have been all "Whhhaaaat happened to your hand?!". At first it made me feel good... like people were concerned about my poor baby hand. Now I just feel like they're grossed out, and asking is their attempt at veiling disgust.
BRB, I'm wearing gloves for the rest of the week.

4. I had an INTENSE sequence of dreams last night about alligators. If you are curious about alligator butchering, I'm your girl, thanks to the crazy red head lady who taught me all about it in said dream (need a visual? Think Sigourney Weaver in Ghostbusters). Pregnancy dreams are weird, man.

5. Last night Christian gave me the foot rub to end all foot rubs. In my humble opinion, this should be a requirement for all husbands. It's sort of gross, but so sweet and tender at the same time am I right?

6. Baby boy has a new favorite activity called "dance on your mom's bladder for 30 minutes a day, bonus points if you do it in the middle of the night when it's especially full". It is the strangest and most uncomfortable feeling, and it's probably only a matter of time before I pee my pants, courtesy of baby. I guess I should start buying diapers for the both of us.

The end.

9.27.2013

a happy list for a happy friday

The last week and a half has been a taxing one.
Thankfully though, there are always things to be happy about and grateful for!

Like:
- The campout Christian and I had in our living room last night.
Sometimes you just need to shake things up a bit and sleep on a mattress in the living room.
Also...... YOLO.

- Also from last night.... The homework we DIDN'T do and the Ellen videos we watched instead. Followed by 2 episodes of Call the Midwife.
(Shameless plug: If you haven't seen that show yet, you need to like... yesterday
It sounds so cheesy and dumb, but it's one of the best I've ever seen. The character development is beyond amazing, and the story is surprisingly gripping.
Even Christian likes it.
So there you go.)

- Grapefruit, grapefruit, grapefruit!
Also can we talk about how perfect the color of grapefruit is?
Favorite. On every level.

- My current tradition of watching a Man vs. Wild episode every day with the munchkins we babysit.
It's been weeks, and I'm still not sick of it.
Also you'd think we'd be used to watching Bear Grylls eat bugs and snakes and crap....
But no.
We still freak out every single time.

- This conversation I had with my mom today:
Mom: "So I changed your ringtone from the BYU fight song to the Harry Potter theme."
Me: "That's the best!"
Mom: "I know! It makes me so happy every time you call because first, it's you calling.
And second, Harry Potter!"
Just when I thought I couldn't love my mom any more.

- This guy.
He and his humor are the biggest blessings in my life.
We could be held at gunpoint, while swimming in shark infested waters, and he would still be able to make me laugh and feel better.
He's just the best.

- Gawking at the Halloween section in Target.
Maaayyybe we've been checking every single week for the last month because we (re: I) have been so excited. Seriously we were freaking out over everything for like 30 straight minutes. Also started planning a Halloween Party, so that's good.
We love this season a little much over here!

So there you go.
Happy weekend all.

8.05.2013

a few things

1. This morning we dropped my baby brother off at the airport to go back home to Florida.
I cried for a solid 20 minutes because my brother is sweet and hilarious and brings so much light to my life.
Who in their right mind wants to let that go!?
Also I 'm basically just dying to go back to Florida. I love that place with  my whole heart. Ghetto and humid and insect infested as it may be.
Also also we woke up at 4:30 this morning after falling asleep around midnight, so maybe I was just a stitch tired too. That's probably the biggest reason why I was crying actually. Either that or I was hungry.
Story of my life.

2. Yesterday in primary, the teacher posed a question to the kids.
Something along the lines of "What did the pioneers have to do to receive blessings?"
And completely out of the blue, my favorite little sunbeam said in his most serious voice:
"PANCAKES"
Dying. For like a solid 10 minutes. I love primary so much.

3. Christian and I biked about 30 miles on Saturday. It was hot and long and exhausting and full of sunburns and swear words (I GOT A FLAT TIRE SUE ME). But it was also super fun. I love biking with my guy.
Also I've perfected the art of riding without my hands. Seriously did it for 3 straight minutes on Saturday.
LIKE A BOSS.
Just another thing to add to my list of useless talents.
Also here is an awkward picture of my sunburned legs. Y'welcome.

4. I started watching New Girl last week and as much as I loved Zooey Deschanel before, I'm like 100 times more obsessed with her. Also I feel like Jess does and says everything I would say if I didn't have reservations about being a freak. I'm happy I have a show that's NOT Keeping Up with the Kardashians that can make me laugh during my unfriendly time of the month.
(Also, Christian astutely noticed that I only indulge in KUWTK during my ultra pms-y time.
I have some very embarassing habits and a wonderfully observant husband, to say the least)

5. My girl Nicole and I spent July 31 emailing Harry Potter themed articles back and forth all day. I'm so glad I have someone to indulge in untouched levels of HP fandom with me.
Also, Buzzfeed is the mecca for those things in case you were wondering.

6. Finally, Christian and I are heading south for some camping and lake-ing and just general fun having.
I've never been so excited for a trip in my liiiiifffffeeee!
June and July packed quite the whallop for our little family, and I'm thrilled that we will get to disconnect from life and reconnect with each other for a solid 5 days.
Gotta eek out the last of summer while we still can!

7.23.2013

favorite things

- Cheerios. It's literally been years since I last had them, and we bought a box this weekend.
They are gone already, thanks for asking.
I feel like when we have kids, I won't be able to pack them baggies of Cheerios for a snack because oh wait, mom would probably eat them all.
#cerealloverproblems

- Neighborhood bike rides. Now that we are officially a 2 road bike family, we can go do it together! I get such a high when Christian and I bike together! Speaking of Christian........

- When he plays this song and sings along while dancing with me in the kitchen.
Puddle on the floor, every single time.
Also ladies, you should try this with your husbands. I'm guessing you won't be disappointed by the results wink wink ;)
I just really love this handsome guy.

- 3 words... ish.
Macey's. Soft serve. Ice cream.
Maybe we go twice a week, maybe we don't.
I guess you'll never know.

- These nuggets who stayed with us all weekend.
Friends since they were babies basically. I'm glad some things never change.

- And finally, I'm just really loving that time seems to be dragging on lately. Sometimes it's hard because it makes the weeks feel painfully long, but in reality, I don't want summer to end!
With that comes fall, and with fall comes winter.
And with winter, endless cold and lack of sun and that all just gets soooo annoying, amiright?
Summer, stay forever won't you?

6.24.2013

a few things

- We saw World War Z this weekend while Christian's dad was in town.
(Fun fact: we also saw the Hobbit with him at midnight over Christmas break. I'm still dying that my father in law came with us to a midnight movie haha)
Just so you know, the movie.
Was.
AWESOME.
If you liked I Am Legend, and have a thing for suspense,
(And I mean,- squeezetheliferightoutofyourhusbandshandforthewholemovie - kind of suspense)
I definitely recommend it.

- The pool heater was broken at our gym this morning.
And guess who had a swim workout?
Oh right.
WE DID.
That was the fastest and coldest 400m I've ever done in my life, and I still have an ear ache from the freezing water. Normally when I swim, I repeat the lap number in my head over and over.
(Stimulating, I know.)
Anyways, this morning it went more like this.
"AHH THIS IS FREEZING AND I'M LITERALLY GOING TO WITHER UP AND DIE RIGHT NOW!
16! 16! 16! CHOKING ON WATER CAN'T BREATHE DYING DYING DYING!"
Or something like that.

- Finally, I've been deliberating doing this for weeks.
I grew out my bangs out for the first time in literally my whole life, but finally last night I decided I couldn't stand looking at my forehead any longer.
At this rate, I will probably be platinum next.
Stay tuned.

5.20.2013

a few things

- Christian and I went on a bit of a Provo food crawl this weekend, and I just HAVE to share these gems.
First is a little hole in the wall called El Salvador Restaurant. They serve a variety of food, but we went for the pupusas. They were beyond cheap
($6.50 for a hugely filling meal for both of us!)
And they were unbelievably good. This place is about as authentic, cheap and tasty as it gets.
Eating out is probably my favorite thing to do.
Obviously. Look at my face.
Maybe we also visited Blue Pablano twice this weekend....
and the Al Pastor is probably my new favorite thing. You can't ever go wrong with fruit on a taco!
Also why had I never been to Yuki before?!?!
The cucumber mint shave ice was unreal!

- BSB has a new album coming out this summer, AND a U.S. tour.
I'm seriously beside myself.
 Oh AJ.
Always rockin the douche-tastic shades.

- We are going to Arizona next weekend, and
I'M.BEYOND.EXCITED.
Christian, being the darling man he is, has planned our drive and Mesa itinerary down to the minute.
(Dare I say he's more excited for this trip than I am!)
I am so thankful we live so close to such a beautiful place. Even though my family doesn't live there any more, Mesa will always hold a special place in our hearts.

- Last week, I was talking to Jack
(one of the 3 children we babysit. more on that.... at some point ha)
I was asking him if he wanted to make his mom a mothers day card, and told him he could draw some things that she likes on it.
His response:
"Yeah like zucchinis! She loves zucchinis"
Ohhhhh children.
This is why I love babysitting those hooligans and being a primary teacher. We are never short on laughs.
That's Jack on the left.
He didn't want to stand closer to Christian for the picture because they were playing monkey in the middle, and he was afraid the ball was going to be stolen.
Notice how Christian is also holding Ashton back, preventing potential aforementioned ball stealing.
This is all completely typical.
Little rascals.

Anyways. That's all.

1.29.2013

breathing again

Today I feel more alive then I have in a very long time.
Especially since coming back to this gosh-forsaken winter bummer-land.

Anyways, you're probably wondering why I'm feeling so alive.
I think it can be attributed to 1 of 3 things.
First, I used N.O. xplode for the first time in months this morning, pre-workout.
LET. ME. TELL. YOU.
I will swear by that stuff until I die.
My during-workout focus is unparalleled.
And the post-workout buzz is so great.

Second, I hard core cycled this morning for the first time in over a year.
Guys. I love cycling SO MUCH.
Like...... SOOOO MUCH.

Third, I am currently streaming JG's new album.
And losing my mind with happiness!

So maybe actually it's all 3 reasons.
Not just 1.
Regardless, I'm a happy woman today.

11.27.2012

a few things

- Here are some snapshots from our weekend, mostly because I don't feel like detailing it all.
But just so you know, it was a GREAT 5 days off of work.
Fur vest courtesy of some insane Black Friday shopping.
Now I will be able to dress up like a polar bear if ever there was an occasion!
Here's a secret:
I ABHOR these kind of olives.
Each time I try and eat one, I'm pretty sure the salt is going to make me shrivel up and die.
But because I love my husband, and he loves these olives, I am trying so hard to learn to love them too.
Sacrifices people.
Also, 2Amys is the BEST food we've had in D.C. so far.
And that's saying something, because there are some great eats here!
Cool picture with some plants at the Botanic Gardens.

Obviously enthused by my hamburger at Good Stuff Eatery.
If you are ever in D.C., you must try their toasted marshmallow shake.
Weirdly delicious!

-Speaking of work.... today I went to Michaels with the mother of the girl I nanny, the grandmother of the girl I nanny, and let's not forget.... the actual girl I nanny.
Sometimes I wonder why they pay me to just hang out with them all day.......

- I think I have food poisoning.
Almost definitely.
Christian and I ate some VERY questionable fish on Sunday
(don't ever eat fish if it's been sitting in your fridge for over 3 days.... let alone a WEEK. I know. We're sick)

- Today on the bus, I saw a man writing imaginary things on the window for a good 20 minutes.
One thing I love about D.C. is all the colorful people.
"Colorful" doesn't even come CLOSE to accurately describing things sometimes.

- And finally, as sad as I am to be leaving this amazing city NEXT WEEK
(soooo crazy!)
I am mega pumped to be with our families in Florida for almost a solid month.
The weather is going to be amazing, and let's not even talk about the unadulterated time with our loved ones.
It's sad that the Showalter side doesn't live in Mesa anymore, but Florida isn't a bad fall back.

Until next time,
peace and blessings!

11.13.2012

lately...

- Doing a kidney cleanse
(mega headaches, LOTS of celery and parsley, and a couple gags later, I'm a new woman!)

- Listening to lots of Christmas music
(the David Archuleta, Country and Nsync stations are our current favorites....
Okay so maybe Nsync is more of a "Brooke" thing...)

- Firmly decided that Christian and I love art museums more than anything.
(We are the nerds that sit and analyze the lighting, flow and color choice of all the paintings.
Never knew we had that in us, but I love it!)

- Saw Lincoln
(due to Christian's high expectations of he movie - he's a Lincoln enthusiast- we didn't enjoy it as much as we hoped. Soooooo political. Which we are soooooo over.)

- Went to a performance of the National Symphony....
took the grainiest photo evvvveerrr, while getting photobombed by Andy Bernard....

.....and saw this guy.
My classical-music-loving-heart was beating out of control all night!
LOVE!

- Anticipating our month long break in Florida with our families.
And our tropical Christmas gettaway with the Showalter side.
imsoexcitedimgonnadie!!!!

- Anxiously awaiting our return to beloved Utah.
We miss it a great deal, surprisingly!
(I think that's just our need to settle down speaking out)
Also, I get my old job back weeee!
I can't wait to be back in the Hinckley building!

- Decided that I definitely have carpal tunnel syndrome.
I am being totally serious about this.
Stay tuned for a true diagnosis.
(No but really. I'm going to the doctor like.... this week. I don't think you guys understand how serious I am)
In the mean time, I have to tend to my very tingly, weak, and painful wrist and hand.
BOO.

- Aaaaand enjoying my week long hiatus from work!
Hence the reason why I'm blogging twice in one day. So much time!
I'm sure I will be going nuts-o by Friday, but for now, I'm lovin' life.
Truly, I am destined to be a stay at home mom, because nothing makes me happier than being a hermit all day.
Which I can't decide is good or bad, but for now I'm going to enjoy being in my own little bubble and NOT invading someone else's all day long.
(Oh the trepidations of being a nanny!)

11.07.2012

a few things

Sorry I've been all sorts of serious lately.

Here are just a few things about life right now, you know, to REALLY spice things up.

-I'm home sick today.
Now you're probably thinking
"Brooke!
You were sick so much this summer!
And now you're sick again?!
What's wrong with you?!"
Trust me, I'm thinking the exact same thing.
I guess when you are a nanny, and the whole family you work for gets super sick, you are bound to contract it as well. C'est la vie.

- So since I'm sick, I'm laying in bed and blogging while listening to the David Archuleta Christmas station on Pandora.
YOU GUYS.
It's seriously so good.
*this is a judgement free zone, so you can wipe that look off your face like, yesterday*

- And also since I'm sick, I'm probably going to watch an entire season of Felicity today or something.
look at Noel's hair hahahahahahaha
Do I have any fellow Felicity lovers out there?
Seriously, SERIOUSLY. That show makes me so emotional.
Also, Javier is probably my favorite character from a tv show in the history of ever.

- Also, here are some nice things that people have done for me lately.
Yesterday, I found out I lost my debit card.
And then I got on the bus and my smarttrip card wasn't working.
Also, I had no cash or change.
So basically I was about to be stuck at Union Station with NO WAY of getting any money.
Also, I felt like I was going to die because oh wait I was also in the throws of getting sick.
YEAH, NOT MY BEST NIGHT EVER.
So then when I tried to get on the bus, the nice driver was all
"Just give me whatever you've got!"
(Which was a meager 30 cents by the way)
And then he let me go home!
I was very thankful for his generosity last night.

- Then when I got home, Christian had made dinner already AND done the dishes.
So then we ate, IN BED. Which was awesome.
And then he started a bath for me!
And THEN we watched Lord of the Rings!
So basically even though I felt like crap, he made my night happy.
*internet hug for my sweetie*

- Also if you were ever wondering how crazy DC gets when Obama wins the election, I will tell you.
CRAZY.
Like we had to bust out the earplugs last night because the screaming and honking was incessant.
Idiots.

Basically that's all.
And now it's time to get my Netflix on.

10.30.2012

how to survive a hurricane

(Disclaimer: I hesitate to write this post as I normally would due to the topic.  I feel so much for those who received the rough part of the storm, especially those whose homes and lives were damaged.  I understand the somber/serious point of the hurricane, and it makes me sad.  With that being said, anyone who reads this please understand that I am not ignorant nor am I trying to make light of the situation--I am simply explaining how Christian and I dealt with the storm.)

Step 1: first and foremost, definitely DON'T go to work, like this guy here.
Chances are you wont even have the option because, OH WAIT, all the public transit is shut down.

Step 2: Sleep in. A must.
This works best if you have a cuddle buddy.
Bonus if he will also rub your back for you.

Step 3: Eat cookies for breakfast. Also a must.

Step 4: Check the weather 8 thousand times.
Also read every article about FRANKENSTORM that you can get your hands on.
Make sure you tell anyone who will listen (read: Christian) literally everything you read.

Step 5: Watch a lot of movies.
Netflix becomes your best friend.
Some examples of ones you might enjoy are:
Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein
Signs
Catch Me if You Can
Charade
Dial "M" for Murder
Vertigo
Maybe we watched 3 of these yesterday......

Step 6: Play Scrabble.
Play Banana Grams.
Play Quirkle.
You can even play Werewolf if you like!
This works best if you dominate every game like a champ.

Step 7: Give yourself a bangin' manicure and pedicure.
Complete with cuticle trim.

Step 8: EAT MORE COOKIES.
Also, cereal.

Step 9: Have a spaghetti dinner banquet with everyone in the Barlow Center.
Complete with Jazz music.
And never mind the fact that you've been eating all day already....

Step 10: Stay up super late because GUESS WHAT.
You don't have work again the next day.

And THAT my friends, is what to do when you are stuck inside for 24 hours straight.
Courtesy of Frankenstorm.

10.06.2012

feeling blessed

This weekend, I am thankful for the temple.

Thankful for conference.

Thankful for prophets who truly speak for God in this day and age.

Thankful for fall, the most exquisite time of year.

Thankful to have enjoyed it out on the Potomac river this morning with my sweet husband and sweet friends.

Thankful for this beautiful country we live in.

Thankful for my family.

Thankful, simply, just to be alive.

So undeserving. But oh so thankful.

10.04.2012

they say it's your birthday

When I was in high school
(And maybe a few years into college as well.... but anyways...)
I was way into having a birthday countdown for myself.

Not because I love my birthday, but the anticipation is my favorite!
(Plus Halloween is the day before, which is also mega fun.)

And seeing as how it is now October, well, probably I need to have a birthday wish list.
(Dear anyone: feel free to send any of the following my way!
Except maybe not the $125 JCrew bracelet.
A girl can dream amiright?)

Asos watch, Vera Wang perfume, JCrew bracelet, Target boots (both), and H&M bag.

Also I must acknowledge that Christian bought me a hot pair of pants from the GAP a few weeks ago,
(not to be confused with hotpants. Ew. Immodest.)
which he so kindly gifted me a month early.
This was awesome for a few reasons.
First, I really wanted those pants. Like, REEEAAALLLY.
Second, well.... I just like really really wanted them.
Basically he's an angel.

titanic tuesday

I woke up with great plans for the day.

That was at 7am before I fell asleep for another 3 hours.
Now I'm sitting at the computer, still in my pajamas, listening to Mumford and Sons (!!!!!!) and blogging.
Let's just say those weren't exactly my great plans for the morning. But I'm happy.

So a lot has gone on in the last week...
I finished 2 tv series and 2 books,
(if you haven't watched Sherlock or Downton Abbey yet, jump on the freakin bandwagon already!)
walked about 24 miles around the city,
went to parks, museums, and the botanic gardens,
ate out WAY too much,
and visited Valley Forge and Philly!
(The latter is the most important exciting)

My phone is on the fritz, resulting in not being able to share any pictures from our weekend in Pennsylvania.
So I'm going to make your day awesome and share this video instead.

You're welcome.

some awkwards and awesomes

AWKWARD:
- When I tripped and almost biffed it on an escalator yesterday. AND came away with an incredibly damaged toe. Seriously though, I'm probably going to have kiss (figuratively of course) my big nail goodbye, because it's almost sure that it will fall off now. BOO.

- Mosquito bites on your feet.
One of the world's greatest injustices.
Yeah, I'm having serious issues with these bad boys right now.
This picture is pretty awkward too right?

- When husband wakes up and says "Thanks for that kiss in the middle of the night last night!"
And I'm all "Uhhhhhhhh...... what?"
And he's all "Yeah! I woke up at like 2am and you kissed me!"
I definitely don't remember that. I guess I should try not to be weirded out, but take comfort in the fact that even my sleepy subconscious self is madly in love with Christian.

- When you just sit at the kitchen doing nothing table for all but an hour of your nannying job.
Because both parents are home.
I mean, I GUESS it's okay if you wanna pay me 13 an hour to sit and do nothing!

- Being reminded why I NEVER wear backpacks.
It's like "Oh hey I'm Brooke! Don't mind my sweat soaked shirt even though it's only 77 degrees outside!"

AWESOME:
- A wonderful institute class.
I totally thought it would be weird going to institute as a *gasp* MARRIED PERSON.
But last night proved me wrong. And now I'm way excited for the rest of the semester.
Now excuse me while I go eat a heaping helping of my words!

- Seeing Christian wear studly business attire every day now that his internship has started.
I think I'm maybe going to love that whole "working man" aspect of married life.
Maybe

- Making new friends.
I will admit, I came to DC slightly pessimistic and feeling like no one would care that I'm here because I'm the "intern-less spouse".
I've been pleasantly surprised however. Everyone has been so kind and friendly to me!
It's a good thing I have my incredible humor and great looks to carry me through these hard times!
*Wink*

- And the final "awesome" is simply that we are in this neato city.
Still can't believe it.
And with that,
THE END

8.29.2012

two days and a sometimes list

- Sometimes for work, I have to take public transit.
Which is stressful enough on its own.
BUT THEN.
Throw in a screaming toddler,
a REALLY dramatic and grouchy businessman,
and a very racist homeless person
(Who, might I add, exited the bus by saying "BYE WHITE TRASH!" to me and two other women. It sounds awful, but it was actually quite funny)
and you have the most exciting bus ride of your life.
Me and the little (who was NOT screaming anymore thankfully) at the Botanic Gardens today.
Aren't you just dying over her precious Mary Janes??

- Sometimes you go to Sprinkles anticipating the purchase of 1 cupcake, and you come away with 5.
But you only actually paid for 2!
Now, I'm no math major, but that seems like a pretty tricky and AWESOME story problem to me!

- Sometimes you get to commute with your husband both to AND from work!
What are the odds that out of the whole city, I am working just up the street from his office?? I mean really.
And even though the hour long commute turns our days into 10 hour long shenanigans, it's really fun.

- Sometimes D.C. has the CA-UUUTTTEEESSST houses ever and you have to snag creepy photographs while no one is looking.
Seriously though. I die on my walks around the city.

Also, this is me.

I'm going to let you guess why I was laying on the floor.
But I will tell you.... It's NOT because I was feeling dramatically deprived of attention from my husband, and thus threw myself onto the ground.
Not at all.

So obviously, things are pretty lively here in the good ol' District.
Stay tuned for more unbearably exciting news!
